This wine is made from pure Falanghina from very old vines located 400 meters (1,310 feet) above sea level with volcanic soil mixed with grey tuff, cinder and black pumice stone. The result is a portfolio of wines that is internationally recognized for outstanding quality. Today, the estate produces zero greenhouse gas emissions and is 100 percent estate grown and bottled. Over its 57-year history, the winery has committed to producing quality wines while having a low impact on the environment. Avallone’s team developed 20 original, premium clones of Falanghina, Aglianico and Piedirosso in 1965, and Villa Matilde’s first official vintage was released in 1976. Founded in 1961 by Francesco Avallone, the estate is recognized as a pioneer in the region for having revived the ancient Falerno varietals, wiped out by phylloxera in the late 1800s. Villa Matilde is known for producing premium quality classic Campania wines.
